SPACE (Strategic Planning,
Architecture/Acquisition, Control and Education) is a computer
aided environment for eBusiness and eGovernment in global
setting. Instead of focusing on one narrow area, SPACE covers
the entire Learn-Plan-Do-Check for ICT (Information and
Communication Technology) services that are at the core of
eBusiness and eGovernment. The Users of SPACE range from
beginners to specialists who can learn about and plan more than
50 high impact ICT services in health, education, economic
development, transportation, public safety, public welfare,
manufacturing, telecommunications and other vital areas. These
individual services can also be combined into powerful
"composites" to represent the following:
- Enterprise-wide services
that combine several individual services to serve an
enterprise such as a city, a hospital or an entrepreneurship
initiative.
- Inter-enterprise services
for B2B and G2G exchanges such as information exchange
networks between different government/business agencies and
supply chains for food distribution to the needy.
How
Does SPACE Really Work
Figure 1 shows a conceptual overview of the SPACE Environment.
The SPACE capabilities are intended for two types of users:
general users who are interested in exploring and learning about
ICT services in the public and private sectors and individuals
who are involved in the planning, engineering and management of
ICT services.
The capabilities for the general users consist of a Directory
for quick reference and a set of knowledge repositories that
provide links to a wide range of case studies, games and
simulation tools and educational materials. An extensive
Decision Support Tool (the planner) is available for the
specialists and officials in governments, NGOs and the private
sectors who need to actually plan, implement and manage the
needed ICT initiatives quickly and effectively. The Planner
serves as an instrument to help the developing countries quickly
by producing highly customized plans based on best practices for
the type of service as well as the country/region at a global
level.
